This program is designed to provide training for entry-level accounting and/or payroll specialist positions. The successful completion of this program will give graduates exposure to basic accounting principles, modern accounting software like QuickBooks, and other essential knowledge and skills.
Students can earn their certificate in as little as 3-4 months but must complete their coursework within a two-year period. Courses can be taken on campus or online. What is it like to work as an Accounting and/or Payroll Specialist?
An Accounting/Payroll Specialist handles the daily transactions of a business or organization including sales, payment of bills, and use of inventory. They may deal with all types of financial accounts and records within an organization.
Titles and responsibilities vary based on the organization’s needs and the size of its accounting department. An entry-level accounting and payroll professional might have a job title like Bookkeeper, Accounts Payable/Receivable Clerk, Accounting Assistant, or Payroll Coordinator.
Strong organization, a head for numbers, and accuracy are important skills for this profession. Accounting and payroll professionals may handle a range of responsibilities such as:
Maintaining budgets and financial records
Checking financial reports for accuracy
Sending and paying invoices on time
Processing payroll deposits
Preparing tax documents
Accounting and Payroll Specialists generally work in an office setting, but they can find employment in almost any industry because every business needs to manage financial records as well as pay its employees. At the entry level or in a small organization, bookkeeping responsibilities may be combined with general administrative duties.

Courses in this program will you teach you the payroll and bookkeeping basics you need to keep office finances flowing.
As a student, you'll train with Quickbooks and Excel, as well as learning other essential skills, such as Outlook and computer file management.

What happens after I complete the program?
After completing the certificate program, you will be prepared to pursue an Intuit QuickBooks certification or take the National Association of Certified Public Bookkeepers exam. You’ll also have the skills you need to seek an entry-level accounting or payroll job. Among other possible job titles, you can work as a Bookkeeper, Accounting Assistant, or Payroll Assistant.

The program is designed for a welding student finishing the Comprehensive Welder Certificate or a welder currently working in the industry and is seeking additional skills to advance their career. Students will be well prepared for employment in the manufacturing and construction industries. The Advanced Welder Certificate can be completed in 9 weeks. Second Chance Job Center, LLC will be teaching BUILDING CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY (BCT) – Level 1. SCJC is a post-secondary institution licensed and approved by the Commission on Higher Education (CHE). SCJC has also been an approved training provider for SC DEW since 2018. SCJC Programs prepare students (including at risk and under-served populations such as youth, veterans, reentering citizens and displaced workers) with the skills and experience needed for a successful career in the building / construction industry through mentoring, vocational skills training, job and career placement services. SCJC's curriculum combines performance based learning in the building trades with academic skills training that includes life skills, career development, and paid on the job training. Standards: Standards reflect the building industry’s skill requirements for entry, semi-skilled and skilled levels of job proficiency in the construction trades. They provide a basis for the certification and training of construction workers and give employers objective benchmarks to select employees and evaluate training needs. The standards are available for: BCT (Building Construction Technology), Carpentry, Electrical, Landscaping, Masonry, Painting, Plumbing, Weatherization and Welding. |

In echocardiography, students are trained to determine the pathology of the heart; monitor flow patterns; and evaluate heart valves, EKG patterns, and the cardiac cycle. In vascular technology, students are trained to determine arterial and venous pathology in the peripheral, abdominal, and cerebrovascular systems. Students attend didactic lecture courses and scan lab courses for the full 15 months of the program; students attend clinical rotations for 12 months of the program. Students attend clinical rotations across S.C. and train in facilities including inpatient and outpatient facilities, Trauma I hospital systems, cath labs, and vascular surgery centers. The cardiovascular sonographer is a skilled member of the diagnostic health care team. Cardiovascular sonographers work closely with cardiologists, electrophysiologists, and vascular and cardiac surgeons. The sonographer must possess in-depth knowledge of ultrasonographic physics, human anatomy, physiology, and pathology. The sonographer's primary job is direct patient care, which necessitates excellent interpersonal skills. Procedures are performed with real-time B-mode, M-mode, and Doppler instrumentation, utilizing a transducer assembly against the anatomical part of the interest and recording the images with ancillary devices. Noninvasive peripheral vascular studies also utilize blood pressure cuffs, photoplethysmography and other devices for assessing hemodynamic properties. This is a 15-month program. There is one start date each year, which is in the first week of September. The program is completed the following December.
All courses in the curriculum must be passed with a grade of “C” or higher in order to proceed to the next semester. |
