Paramedic-CE
The paramedic is a healthcare assistant with incredibly important duties. To be successful in the field, the graduate must be a confident leader who can accept the challenge and high degree of responsibility entailed in the position. The paramedic must have excellent judgment and be able to prioritize decisions and act quickly in the best interest of the patient, must be self-disciplined, able to develop patient rapport, interview hostile patients, maintain a safe distance, and recognize and utilize communication unique to diverse multicultural groups and ages within those groups. The paramedic must be able to function independently at an optimum level in a non-structured environment that is constantly changing. To be eligible for the 11-month long paramedic program (CEEMS 585), students must have a current EMT or Advanced EMT certification. Students must have also completed an Anatomy and Physiology course within the last five years. This program can be completed in approximately 11 months of training beyond EMT. Midlands Technical College also offers an Advanced EMT to Paramedic Program (CEEMS 610). Students must be certified as an Advanced EMT and have completed an Anatomy and Physiology course within the last five years. This program can be completed in approximately 6 months of training beyond Advanced EMT. 68W Military Occupational Specialty Pathway. Midlands Technical College recognizes the valuable education and field experience acquired by military personnel with a 68W (Combat Medic Specialist) military occupational specialty. In alignment with our commitment to supporting veteran and active-duty military students, we have established a pathway to facilitate entry into the Advanced EMT to Paramedic program. Applicants for the 68W pathway must hold an active NREMT certification & 68W MOS. Qualified 68W applicants will be granted experiential credit and admitted at the Advanced EMT level within the program and may complete the Advanced EMT to Paramedic Program (CEEMS 610). If you are not currently an EMT, MTC offers Emergency Medical Technician and Advanced EMT training certificates.
