Basic Information

Midlands Technical College
Emergency Medical Technician - CE
At MTC, we offer a 200-hour course to train you to provide out-of-hospital emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical services (EMS) system. Upon successful completion, students will be eligible to take the National Registry EMT exam and the South Carolina EMT Psychomotor exam. Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) have the basic knowledge and skills necessary to stabilize and safely transport patients ranging from non-emergency and routine medical transports to life-threatening emergencies. EMTs function as part of a comprehensive EMS response system, under medical oversight. They perform interventions with basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. EMTs are a critical link between the scene of an emergency and the health care system. A great demand exists for EMTs in today’s workforce with a competitive entry level salary and ample advancement opportunities. Although the majority of EMTs function on an ambulance, there are also opportunities to utilize this training in areas such as hospitals, fire departments, industrial plants, and clinics. We have flexible course offerings to suit most students' scheduling needs; courses can be as short as 12 weeks or as long as 6 months. Prerequisites are a high school diploma or GED, and Accuplacer testing (individuals with at least an associate degree OR have previously been a National Registry EMT are exempt from pre-screening). Applicants must be physically able to perform all the tasks required of an EMT. Mandatory uniform policy is black khaki pants, black polo shirt, black shoes, and black belt.
