Yes |
|
Program Description |
Prerequisites |
Instructor Qualifications |
Equipment Description |
| Offered day and night, this 10-month classroom and clinical program will prepare you to become a licensed massage therapist in South Carolina.
What is it like to be a massage therapist?
As a clinical massage therapist, you'll learn how to apply massage techniques to treat soft tissue injuries, chronic pain and myofascial injury, and structural and postural distortions. This is a very rewarding career as you're often helping people relieve pain through therapeutic touch.
Massage therapists can work in a variety of settings, including spas, gyms, and healthcare settings. Some massage therapists may prefer to operate their own independent practice.
Demand is growing for medical massage therapists in healthcare. As this profession advances to include assessment and treatment of most soft tissue injuries, clinical massage therapists are becoming more crucial to physicians, physical therapists, chiropractors, and athletic trainers. A skilled massage therapist incorporating massage techniques for specific anatomical and physiological considerations can create better health outcomes and improve the patient experience.
About the Program
What will my courses be like?
We are committed to a holistic, integrated approach to massage therapy. You'll learn a range of massage techniques including basic Swedish massage and clinical neuromuscular therapy, a form of deep tissue massage.
In your coursework, you'll cover:
Anatomy and physiology
Clinical massage theory and practice
Allied modalities
Statutes and history of massage
Business practices
Ethics
Pathology
CPR
What happens after I complete the program?
After you complete this program, you will take the national MBLEx exam that is required for state licensure.
After you pass the exam, you may submit your application to the SC Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (LLR) to be a Licensed Massage Therapist in South Carolina. You will need to renew your license every two years by taking 12 hours of continuing education courses.
Please note that a criminal record may prevent you from finding employment in this field.
Why choose MTC?
MTC simply offers the best massage therapy program in Columbia at an affordable price. Classes are offered at our Harbison Campus. Our courses are taught by licensed massage therapists with years of field experience. What does a CNC operator do?
When manufacturing is automated, machine shop tools such as lathes and mills need to be programmed to create parts to the right specifications. That’s where CNC operators and programmers come in.
Anything from a part for a kitchen appliance to the engine block for your car was created by a machinist or a CNC operator. CNC machines are used to manufacture components for multiple industries, including:
Medical
Aerospace
Automotive
Defense
Oil and gas
Electronics
As a certified CNC operator, you can work for fabrication companies or in a manufacturing plant. Among other potential job duties, CNC operators need to be able to:
Read blueprints and enter instructions to program machinery
Observe and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality
Maintain equipment
Follow safety regulations
About the Program
What will my courses be like?
In MTC’s CNC training program, you’ll learn the basics of CNC programming and gain hands-on experience with CNC machines under the supervision of our experienced faculty.
CNC courses cover all the skills you will need to start work in a manufacturing facility. Topics include:

Equipment Description |
| At MTC, we offer a 224-hour course to train you to provide out-of-hospital emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical services (EMS) system. Upon successful completion, students will be eligible to take the National Registry EMT exam and the South Carolina EMT Psychomotor exam.
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) have the basic knowledge and skills necessary to stabilize and safely transport patients ranging from non-emergency and routine medical transports to life-threatening emergencies. EMTs function as part of a comprehensive EMS response system, under medical oversight. They perform interventions with basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. EMTs are a critical link between the scene of an emergency and the health care system.
A great demand exists for EMTs in today’s workforce with a competitive entry level salary and ample advancement opportunities. Although the majority of EMTs function on an ambulance, there are also opportunities to utilize this training in areas such as hospitals, fire departments, industrial plants, and clinics.
We have flexible course offerings to suit most students' scheduling needs; most students complete this program in approximately three to six months.
The Accuplacer is a prerequisite for entry into EMT. Contact our Testing Center at testctr@midlandstech.edu or 803.790.7522 to schedule the Accuplacer exam. Upon completion, please send your results to ems@midlandstech.edu. Applicants must be physically able to perform all the tasks required of an EMT. Mandatory uniform policy is black pants, black polo shirt, black shoes, and black belt.
Special Note: Successful completion of some classes in this training program, along with meeting college entrance and program requirements, may provide you with exemption credit and/or advanced placement into the General Technology in Health Care Degree Program at Midlands Technical College. Full acceptance into the program will be pending on completion of all required coursework.
Please email the Sonography Program Director at kelseymmarl@midlandstech.edu if you have any questions regarding admissions requirements.
Application Process
Prospective students must apply for admission to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program by completing the steps below.
The 15-month program begins each fall semester, September 1, and concludes in December of the following year. The priority application deadline is March 1.
Step 1:
Download application and mail along with a $25 non-refundable application fee to:
Continuing Education Department
Attention: Sonography Program
Midlands Technical College
PO Box 2408
Columbia SC 29202
Include with your application a copy of any professional certification for verification (ARRT card as an example), if you have been previously certified.
Step 2:
Official college transcripts showing a completed undergraduate degree and the three prerequisites listed above are required. Transcripts may be mailed to the same address listed in ‘Step 1’; or official e-transcripts can be ordered and emailed directly to the Sonography Program Director: kelseymmarl@midlandstech.edu.
Step 3:
A minimum of 2 letters of recommendation from employers, professors, or professional colleagues are required with the application packet. Please have letters of recommendation sent to the same mailing address or email address above.

Once a student has met the preliminary admissions requirements, he/she will be required to attend a mandatory ‘Sonography Information Session’ in spring term. Upon completion of these two requirements, the student will then be invited to an in-person panel interview. Job shadowing prior to the ‘Information Session’ is strongly encouraged, if it is possible for the applicant to complete on their own.
All students are required to have a clean background check for 10 years, and a clear drug screening. The forms and instructions for completing background check and drug screen will be distributed after the student has received their letter of acceptance in to the program.
Additional Information
The 15-month program begins each fall semester, September 1st, and concludes in December of the following year.
The application deadline is March 1st.
Those applicants who are currently completing their degree studies (or pre-requisite courses) may apply to the Sonography program, interview, and receive ‘probationary acceptance status’, pending proof of completion prior to the first day of Sonography classes (September 1st). Those who do not provide this proof prior to the beginning of the first day of class will not be eligible to proceed in the program.
Foreign applicants must meet certain academic admission requirements and should contact CCE Registration office to ensure eligibility. Students who do not use English as their first language may have to demonstrate proficiency in the English language before being accepted into the program.
The program has approximately 8-10 seats per year.
There is no waitlist for the Sonography Program. We no longer have rolling admissions and will no longer transfer offers of acceptance from year to year. Students must resubmit their application and provide the $25 application fee again should they decide to reapply for the next year.
Students in this program are involved in their professional course work and clinical education rotations for a minimum of 35 hours per week. Full-time work is not possible for the 15 months of the program, due to the time commitment of classes and clinicals.
